Teen Girl Fashion: Mum & Fashion Editor Approved Pieces They're Wearing This Season
You guys, I’m not going to pretend I genuinely like teen fashion right now, because I don’t. Take me back to the time where I could buy hideously expensive French smock dresses and colourful Bobo Choses pieces and my kids wouldn’t bat an eyelid, because things are verrrrrry different right now.
My daughter is 12 going on 17, and she’s only just shown interest in fashion. I naively thought this would be a good thing, and that she perhaps was taking after my obsession with clothes which started around the same age, but no…
She’s at an age where she’s clearly very influenced by her peers and what she sees on TV, and that can be a good and bad thing. On the one hand, she has to learn from somewhere as she doesn’t have access to social media yet, but on the other, she’s forming her personal style based purely on what everyone else is wearing, and that isn’t always to my taste. With a lot of back and forth, shopping centre visits and occasional tears (from me), we do manage to come to a happy medium, which is where today’s edit comes into play.
These are all trending pieces which hopefully appeal to the both of you, and I’ve noted down some dummy cheat-sheet points which may make your next tween shopping expedition a little more enjoyable.
Trends to look out for right now in the tween/teen space:
Low rise jeans in a boot cut
V-neck tops and knits
Baggy oversized silhouettes
Flared leggings
90s style stripes
Low slung belts
Maxi skirts
Slip-on Uggs
Birkenstocks
Reliable stores and brands to look for:
One last thing…
It’s important to always check both the kids’ and women’s sections online, as some kids’ brands go up to a size 16, while some women’s brands start at a size 4 or 2XS. It’s a tricky in-between stage, so it really comes down to sizing and personal taste when deciding which brands work best for your tween/teen.
Best of luck!
