What To Wear When Your Wardrobe Gives You The Ick
If it isn’t already obvious, this edit is largely for me. It’s always at this point of the year where I’m over everything in my wardrobe and lack imagination to do anything about it. Styling makes all the difference, yes, and I worked for over a decade as a stylist, but when you get the ick, it’s hard to see clearly and get the motivation to do anything about it.
However! With a few simple tweaks and suggestions, I’m pretty sure I can overcome this sartorial hurdle. Here’s how:
Add an unexpected colour to your wardrobe. I’m living in neutrals and black at the moment and it’s bringing me down. A touch of green, pale blue or burgundy is just what my sad winter wardrobe slump needs.
Accessories really do make all the difference. I’m not talking about your usual gold hoops here, but something a little more dramatic and unexpected that will instantly perk up your outfit and mood. The Missoma engravable cord necklace is calling my name.
Experiment with silhouettes. If you do need to add a new shirt, pants or a jacket to your wardrobe, opt for a more exaggerated or voluminous shape. It really does make all the difference in terms of modernising a look.
When in doubt, update just one thing. Clearly I’m not going to buy an entire new wardrobe right now, but updating just one item — a sneaker, handbag or jacket — will give me the refresh I need to fall in love with items I already own in a new light.
Here we go!
