The Best Elastic-Waist, Pull-On Pants
Do you think the latest influx of elastic-waist, drawstring pants is the fashion industry’s way of apologising for all the inexplicably uncomfortable clothes (ahem, bandage dresses) we’ve been subjected to over the years? Surely we’re getting the last laugh here, with comfort and style finally merging to produce some of the most wearable and adaptable pants we’ve seen in a long time.
Donni’s taffeta drawstring pants have caused a stir (for good reason — although sadly they’re mostly sold out), while Leset’s Kyoto pants are trending in every colour of the rainbow. I want them all. Closer to home, Matteau, Assembly Label and Bassike are all leading the way in drawstring and elastic chic. I’m obsessed, and very happy to have an option outside of denim as the weather cools.
My only tip? Avoid linen. Great for summer holidays, less so for autumn and winter. Cotton poplin is your best friend during the day, while satin lends itself perfectly to evening dressing.
