I wasn’t quite sure how to categorise this edit, as it’s not exactly activewear, but it’s not quite casual basics either. If there were a category somewhere in between — one that prioritises warmth, comfort and a little wet-weather protection — then I suppose this would be it. The best way to describe it is probably “what you wear to watch your kid play sport on a freezing Saturday morning”… and if that applies to you, you’re in luck.

I’ve actually come to really value practical wardrobe staples like a great raincoat or puffer jacket, because in these instances, function absolutely trumps form. These are the kinds of pieces worth investing in, as you’ll likely wear them for years. Lululemon, Stutterheim and Uniqlo do the practical side exceptionally well, while chain stores and smaller brands deliver the trend element — fun colours, modern silhouettes and accessories that make it all feel a little more relaxed.
