How To Nail In-Between Dressing

You guys, I take weather and dressing very seriously. I hate being cold, I hate being too hot, so I’ve routinely checked the weather before bed and as soon as I wake up for as long as I can remember. And I’m not talking about the built-in iPhone weather app, either. It’s Weatherzone Pro or bust for me.

I do this so I can plan my outfits accordingly and see a breakdown of when the day or night is at its coldest and hottest. This allows for purposeful outerwear and shoe planning, mainly. The rest can largely be made up of good layering, but jackets and footwear are key to being comfortable and sufficiently warm during these tricky months.

Which brings me to today’s edit on in-between dressing. By in-between, I mean trans-seasonal dressing — namely Autumn and Spring — when unpredictable forecasts mean you might need an array of both cold- and warm-weather clothing to accommodate multiple seasons in one day. We’ve started experiencing this in Sydney lately, and I’ve been noting down what’s getting me through each day with ease.

For the most part, it’s a mix of lots of shirting, denim and pants, and slowly branching out into more exposed footwear. I’m not in sandals yet, but mules, slip-on flats, loafers and sneakers with bare legs or ankles are on heavy rotation. Similarly, I’ve started prepping my skirts — namely A-line full skirts and midi styles — to wear with long-sleeve tops and lightweight knits.

The next few months are also that glorious stage where you can mix and match long and short layers, wear open-toed shoes with jeans, and throw on a trench coat in lieu of anything heavier. It’s opposite dressing at its finest, and it always somehow produces the best-looking outfits, proportion-wise.

If it seems like a tricky time of year to get dressed properly, I hear you. But here are some great starting points if you need to add a little zing to your wardrobe right now.
